7 September marks World Duchenne Awareness Day (WDAD), a disease in which we as a company are particularly involved.
Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies (DMD/BMD) are rare genetic diseases that cause progressive muscle degeneration. They are caused by a mutation on the X chromosome, which is why mainly males are affected, and every year, 1 in 5,000 children are born with DMD worldwide.
The aim of this day is precisely to make people more aware.
The theme of World Day 2023 is ‘Duchenne: Breaking Barriers’ People with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD) face physical, health and social barriers. This severely limits their ability to participate fully in community life and activities. That is why on 7 September everyone is invited to take responsibility for helping to break down barriers for people living with DMD/BMD to create an inclusive society and build a better future.
